This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Rebecca Smith who was born in Connecticut on March 26, 1984 and passed away on September 06, 2004 at the age of 20. We will remember her forever. Rebecca lost her life along with that of her friends Andrea Wagner, Matt Teston and Ryan Cayford, all considered victims of Hurricane Frances, traveling on a road that was totally blocked by a fallen tree.,
.
Rebecca was an only child to Denise Fitzgerald and Lee Smith; stepdaughter to Denise's husband Bob. She has 3 loving stepsisters, Lisa, Lynne and Lori, but to Rebecca they were her sisters. A beautiful girl with strawberry blonde hair, Becca, as her friends called her, was a caring individual. She was quite the dancer from age 3 through 12, was a girl scout for 8 years, was part of middle and high school band for a total of 7 years. Moving to Florida when she was 8 was difficult as it meant leaving family behind in Connecticut. She spent as much time as possible visiting during holidays and summer vacations. Trips to Lake George always created special memories for her. One such trip was just a few weeks before her death. Becca was very involved with her school band, The Deland High School Marching Bulldogs. She played the flute for several years, however when asked by the band director to change to trombone due to the need for players, she did so with a smile, of course it helped to have a boyfriend in the same section of the band. She was a student at the local community college. She worked as a server and bartender to pay for an apartment as best as she could. She would be pleased to know a scholarship was set up in her honor for a Deland High School Band Senior. Also a seperate Band Award for the 'Most Devoted Band Member' as she was voted such her senior year by her peers. Always a smile on her face, a shoulder to lean on, lover of animals, could dance all night, giggle with her girlfriends, cry every time watching 'Steel Magnolias'. How ironic, a movie about a daughter's untimely death. Now we find different ways to celebrate the holidays, her birthday, etc. She is an angel around us all, talk out loud so she can hear, look for the little signs she is there. Her favorite sunflower marks this page, her voice is ever in our ears, her love in our hearts.
